Registered Massage Therapist
Maxine Wilson
I'm a Registered Massage Therapist with a background in dance, personal training, and injury prevention. I graduated with honours from Georgian College's Massage Therapy program and also hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Choreography and Performance from York University. My experience in clinical, hospital, long-term care, sports, and community wellness settings has taught me how important it is to adapt care to each individual. I'm passionate about helping people feel and move better through quality, client-centred treatments tailored to their specific needs and goals.
I believe quality care begins with listening and understanding each person as an individual. No two bodies, lifestyles, or goals are the same, so I look beyond the area of discomfort to understand the patterns that may be contributing to it. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing a client's nervous system settle, their pain decrease, and their body begin to move with greater ease.
Her story
From dance to massage therapy
I've been a dancer for most of my life, which sparked an early interest in movement, the human body, and injury prevention. As a dancer and athlete who has trained at a high level, I understand the pressure to perform and the physical and mental challenges that can come with an injury or setback. My own experiences with injuries showed me how pain can affect confidence, progress, and the ability to participate in the activities you enjoy. I have also seen how chronic stress can affect both physical and emotional well-being, teaching me the importance of care that supports pain relief, recovery, and relaxation.
Following my passion for dance, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Choreography and Performance from York University while continuing to teach. My experiences in dance, teaching, personal training, and lifting ultimately inspired me to pursue a healthcare career where I could help others feel and move better. I earned my Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Massage Therapy from Georgian College, graduating with honours and being named to the Dean's List. During my education, I gained experience with diverse populations through hospital, long-term care, sports, pregnancy, fibromyalgia, and community wellness placements.
In September 2025, I began working as a physiotherapy assistant and personal trainer in an interdisciplinary clinic in Aurora. This role gave me valuable experience supporting rehabilitation programs, helping clients exercise safely, and collaborating with physiotherapists. I began practising as a Registered Massage Therapist in February 2026 and joined the team at Align Health Centre in May 2026, where I continue to provide individualized care within a collaborative clinic environment.
These experiences have taught me that every client requires a different approach and that quality care begins with listening, adapting, and helping people feel supported. Today, my background in massage therapy, dance, personal training, and rehabilitation shapes how I care for my clients. I assess how the body moves, look for patterns that may be contributing to pain or limitations, and recognize the importance of helping the nervous system settle. I combine tailored massage treatments with home-care recommendations, including stretching, strengthening, and mobility exercises, to support each client's individual needs and goals.

How she can help
How Maxine can help
Muscle tension, stress & relaxation
For general muscle tightness, stress-related tension, spasms, difficulty relaxing, or physical symptoms tied to poor sleep. I use Swedish massage, rhythmic and percussive techniques, gentle myofascial work, trigger point therapy, passive stretching, and hydrotherapy to encourage relaxation, decrease overall muscle tension, and help the nervous system settle.
Neck, shoulder & postural discomfort
Pain, stiffness, or restricted movement linked to posture, muscular imbalances, work demands, sleeping positions, or repetitive activities. I assess posture and neck and shoulder range of motion, then focus treatment on the chest, upper back, neck, and shoulder muscles, followed by postural education and personalized mobility, stretching, or strengthening exercises.
Lower back, glute, hip & sciatica-related symptoms
Pain, tension, or restricted movement through the lower back, hips, and glutes, sometimes with sciatica-related symptoms. I assess lower-back and hip movement and address muscular patterns with focused work, gluteal trigger-point therapy, hip and spinal joint mobilizations, passive stretching, and mobility or strengthening exercises.
Sports injuries & exercise recovery
Muscle soreness, strains, sprains, overuse concerns, restricted mobility, or physical stress related to sport, dance, lifting, and exercise – for dancers, lifters, athletes, and active individuals. I adapt treatment to your sport, stage of recovery, and goals, with range-of-motion assessment, focused work on affected and compensating muscles, assisted stretching, joint mobilizations, hydrotherapy, and exercises to support a gradual return to activity.
Shoulder injuries & impingement-related symptoms
Shoulder pain or restricted movement associated with rotator-cuff conditions, impingement, repetitive use, or muscular imbalances. I assess shoulder range of motion and the relationship between the shoulder blade, upper back, chest, and rotator-cuff muscles, with focused work, gentle joint mobilizations, passive stretching, and exercises that support shoulder mobility and stability. Massage can also complement physiotherapy or another rehabilitation program.
Tendinitis & repetitive-strain concerns
Tendon-related pain or sensitivity from repetitive work, sport, lifting, or a sudden change in activity – including rotator-cuff, elbow, patellar, and Achilles tendinopathy. I consider the irritability and stage of the condition, and rather than applying excessive pressure to an irritated tendon, I address tension in the surrounding muscles, support comfortable joint movement, and recommend appropriate mobility or strengthening exercises, modifying techniques during acute or sensitive stages.
Chronic pain, arthritis & fibromyalgia
Ongoing pain, tender points, muscle tension, fatigue, or joint stiffness that can affect movement and daily activities – for clients living with chronic musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, or other chronic pain conditions. I use a gentle, adaptable approach based on your symptoms, energy, sensitivity, and comfort that day, which may include Swedish massage, gentle myofascial techniques, hydrotherapy, comfortable positioning, and low-grade joint mobilizations.
Headaches & jaw tension
Headaches, TMJ dysfunction, or jaw discomfort associated with muscle tension, stress, posture, clenching, or repetitive jaw use. I assess tension through the neck, shoulders, upper back, jaw, and base of the skull, with suboccipital techniques, focused work to the neck and jaw muscles, scalp massage, gentle stretching, and relaxation techniques. For more persistent TMJ-related pain, intraoral massage may be appropriate when clinically indicated and with your informed consent.
