Physiotherapist
Jonathan D’Sylva
Jonathan is a manual-based physiotherapist who treats one patient at a time — the whole appointment is yours, never shared. With 17 years of hands-on, evidence-based care, he treats recovery as a team effort: getting to know you, building exercise plans that fit your life, and using modalities like laser and shockwave only when they will genuinely help.
I’m going to work to the best of my abilities to deliver the highest-quality, evidence-based, one-on-one care that I possibly can.
His story
Where sports met science
I was always big into sports growing up, and when I got to high school I discovered I was a total science nerd. So when I realized that physiotherapy combined sports and science, I knew it would be a good fit.
What sealed it was a bad ankle injury in high school. The physio treating me was also working with one of the Toronto Maple Leafs — which I thought was the coolest thing ever — and it showed me I could one day work with pro athletes. But more than that: as I got better and could get back to life as normal, I felt so grateful, and I wanted to be the person who could do that for someone else.
I earned my BSc in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo, took a year to work and save for tuition, then completed my MSc in Physiotherapy at McMaster, with further training in manual therapy, laser, shockwave, therapeutic taping and cranial sacral therapy. I’ve worked at a number of clinics over the years, but what keeps me at Align is simple: everyone here cares about patients and outcomes, not income. Each patient trusts us with their health, and we work to give them the best outcome we can.
